First his birth was not suspected seeing that his mother had been barren for many years.

Then Isaac prays and the Lord reveals that Rebekah will have children (twins).

His first deception is bartering for the birthright.

Instead of him waiting to see the promise of the Lord fulfilled he decided to barter with his brother Esau when asked for some of his stew.

It is further revealed while Rebekah is pregnant that the twins will represent 2 nations, and the older will serve the younger.

In Jewish tradition the older was always served by the younger, but by the hand of God we are beginning to see how God chooses.

As it turned out, Jacob, by means of an elaborate double deception, managed to obtain his older brother’s birthright from their father.

Jacob then fled his brother’s wrath and went to take refuge with the Aramaean tribe of his ancestors at Haran in Mesopotamia.

We see that Jacob and Esau are the most unlikely pair of twins, one is a hunter and one is accustomed to staying at home and cooking.

We see that the parents had their favorites, One of the unfortunate characteristics of Jacob is that he is a deceiver.
