Film Studies Evaluation Coursework-89
Hi guys Was just wondering if anyone could tell me exactly what we have to do for the coursework in A2. (I'm making a music video to Radioactive by Imagine Dragons if that is any help on what my essays will be related to? You do a pre-production essay on either representation or narrative or genre which is worth 45% of your coursework grade then you do your production - which is another 45% - and has to feature some elements of your essay.I've just started to make my music video and my teacher really hasn't explained what comes after this. Say, if you found that a genre feature of music videos was montage editing, you'd put in montage editing.I found 2/3 of it easy but the remaining 3rd I struggled with and improvised.

My narrative consists of a female college student walking home through a forest, a shortcut, only to be hunted down by her ex-lover.

The realistic setting and back-story gives the feeling of the possible, striking fear in to the audience as this could easily, hypothetically, happen to them.

To achieve this voyeuristic feel, I used extreme long-shots and pans, the latter mimicking the movement of the head as the protagonist walks by, as well as adding the diegetic sound of heavy breathing which would enhance the voyeurism.

I aimed to create an alignment with the protagonist, who is represented through the antagonist’s point of view, by making the audience feel worried for her.

The audience would have to choose their alignment; having to negotiate the morality of John, the antagonist, being violent towards Holly and the morality of Holly breaking John’s heart because “it just isn’t working” – the only reason given in the narrative, with no mentioning of domestic violence beforehand. I say this because one setting, the present day, was set entirely in the woods, where the antagonist would stalk Holly, the protagonist.

My narrative style, as aforementioned, consisted of a linear structure interrupted by brief flashbacks. I chose a forestry setting because it is secluded, connoting that the protagonist will not easily escape the antagonist, but it is also a setting which features in the audience’s everyday lives, as the location I filmed at was just down the road from me, making the setting very real for the audience, and therefore very scary.

I'd assume that your teacher knows what they're doing, but you could always ask them if you feel like it's strange that you jumped straight into your production (I'm assuming with little research) for both AS and A2 coursework I did the essays first um essay I did rep of women in film magazines.

Production - originally going to be a film review moving image piece - switched to a print production for a new horror film, with a female lead, and involved a DVD cover, film poster, magazine cover and 2 page magazine spread though my production was a bit of a disaster if I'm honest - my files corrupted the day before my deadline (which had already been extended as we got told to restart the whole thing from scratch on the actual deadline day) exam - a bit of a mixed bag.

A student guide talking about best practice, methods, questions to consider and advice to help you cover all areas and key concepts in detail.

From my project I found that women are viewed merely for sexual gratification even in today’s apparent modern society.
